A range of national standards for winter sports was unveiled in Harbin, the capital city of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province, on July 21.

It came as Harbin recently earned the hosting rights for the 9th Asian Winter Games.

These standards, approved and released by State Administration for Market Regulation, were announced and elaborated by Xu Changxing, deputy director of the administration.

These 11 standards are related to the fields of terminology, public sport level evaluations, training for winter sports, event organization, and venue operation management.

They cover popular skiing, speed skating, alpine and snowboarding, curling, and winter sports event hosting.

Currently, winter sports are experiencing rapid development, with the popularity of these sports on an upward trajectory.

However, the industry is faced with inadequate standards and unimproved legislation. The path to the legal, standardized, and regulated development of winter sports is critical for healthy and orderly industry growth, with an urgent need to establish appropriate standards.

The timely announcement of these 11 national standards for winter sports maintains significant importance. They are set to drive the sustainable development of winter sports and the related industry.
